Hello and Happy New Year to all. My wife got a poinsettia for Christmas and I was wondering if I can replant it before it dies and have it come back next year? Or is it toast when it turns brown? Thanks in advance.

Hi Richie,
To be quite honest, I don't find keeping Poinsettias worth all the trouble.
I know that some folks may disagree on this,
but, as beautiful as they are when florist grown,
I simply cannot give them the very specific conditions they demand
to remain beautiful - not in my home, and not even in my glasshouse.
I can keep them alive, but they invariably become straggly-looking messes,
and all that light/dark timing that is requited for re-bloom . . .
Pffft . . . fo-ged aboud' it!
I will just enjoy the one I bought this season,
it should look fine for 6-8 more weeks,
then, into the trash it will go.

I agree with Zuzu in every way. Much to much trouble to keep them alive and tp try and have them bloom again for you. They make a good addition to the home composting bin once they've died back though.

I agree with Zuzu and Eileen. If your Poinsettia has turned brown it is most likely "toast".

Sounds toasty to me too. If you plant one outside it will get nice and bushy over the summer but stay green. It wont overwinter in your area. My friend in Fla plants them in her yard. They arent a stunning bush but they do get large for her.

I'm with the rest of the gang! Enjoy it while you can and treat yourself to a fresh one next year! I tried to keep one from last year. The plant was green and looked ok but it dropped little droplets of sap or something all over my table!! Disgusting
