Hello,

I just moved from FL to MO back in October and brought some Mexican Petunias w/ me. I was keeping them in the garage - they're z8 plants - and they got frostbitten pretty bad from the cold weather on monday and tuesday. Does anyone have any advice on how to save them? We brought them in the house yesterday afternoon. The soil in the pots was practically frozen. We put warm water on them until it thawed.

I just read that you shouldn't fertilize frostbitten plants for 1yr after you see new growth and not to remove leaves unless you know for sure they are dead. I also read that you should trim stuff down of it is really bad. So....Idk what to do or even if what I have done so far was the right thing to do. I also gave them some Rescue Remedy (silly, I know, but I just brought these up w/ me in October from FL - I had rooted them from cuttings in my yard).

Thanks for any help.

I'm down in Houston and mine have gotten frostbitten several times and covered in ice once.

They should come back just fine when it's a bit warmer.

Hold off on fertilizer until you see new growth, then fertilize as you normally would do.

And don't prune them till you see the new growth.

Patience.

I thought they were suppose to die back in the winter and return each year. I planted some for the first time this fall and mine bit the duat to frostbite.
