My husband and I enjoyed making these together from old barnwood. He built them and I embellished them

Very cute Polly, nice job. Wish I could get my hands on some old fencing/barn board. It is hard to come by...you almost have to be at a job site when the old fence comes down and the new goes up. And then the fence company wants to sell it to you Rolling Eyes

Those are just great birdhouses Polly.

Lovely bird houses, Polly! I like the worn look where the paint is nearly off and the grey shines through.

Just perfect for all our little feathered friends!! Do you hang them in your own garden, give them to friends or do you sell them? I would be proud to have them in my garden as I think they are really lovely and should keep lots of baby birds warm and cosy. Stew Face 1

I love your birdhouses Polly. My cousin, and her husband do that too!!! I think old barnwood is the most wonderful thing . . . I went up to visit kin in Southwest Virginia over the holidays, and so many old landmarks had been torn down. It does my soul good to see folks like you are preserving the remnants of some of them . . . Your birdhouses are very lovely.

Kuntrygal: My fiancee is from Massachusetts, and his brother has a fence company. I told him what you said. He said that his brother gets old chestnut fences that are extremely old . . . I asked, "What does he do with them?" He replied, "He burns them in his woodstove to stay warm!"
I'm thinking . . . "Gee Whiz." Shocked (But they do have very brutal winters there.)

Polly, those are wonderful. I love the rustic look.

When we did the yearly car registration last month, we were issued new license plates....they replace them every 7 years. I am hoping to use the old plates as roofs on a couple of birdhouses made from some old fence panels this spring.

Very nice bird houses. You both do good work. Do you have one in your garden?

We were fortunate to get the wood. Friends bought an older home and the shed behind the house was falling down. Since my husband does woodworking, they offered him all of the wood that he wanted for free. We have sold several of them and several are at a local shop that sells Michigan made crafts on consignment. I kept one for myself. Since I like to sew, I kept one that is embellished with buttons.

Where did you get the decorative accents like the planters? Are those dollhouse accessories?
