Since the back yard is pretty much filled already, I decided that the vegies I want to grow this year would have to be done in containers. On Monday I posted a Wanted for the large kitty litter plastic buckets on the rEcycle list and tonight we met a lady and picked up two of the litter buckets, 2 of the large orange Home Depot buckets and 5 black plastic trashcans about the same size. I am going to paint them to cover up the logo's....I don't want the neighbors to think they look trashy and call the city inspector on me. Someday we will have a privacy fence along the alley and that will no longer be a concern.
Yesterday I posted a Wanted for a 2 or 4 drawer metal filing cabinet. I am going to paint the drawers and make planters out of them and the actual cabinet will be painted and become a planter too. The lady I got the buckets from said she is replacing a filing cabinet in her home office and when she does she will give me her old one.
And this morning I responded to an Offer post for a really cute wooden mail box. I emailed him and he chose to give it to me. I will post a picture when we get it home.
It has a shingled roof and opens on each end, one for the carrier to put the mail in and one for the home owner to take the mail out. I have been wanting one like it but they are expensive in stores if you can find them.

Sounds like you've been busy Toni! I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff before and after painting and planting. Neighbours can be so irritating sometimes! We should make a Stew colony somewhere, then we could all stop worrying.

Oh I really want to see all those containers painted up Toni!! They will look wonderful I'm sure.
We have a freecycle group here and Ian and I have just picked up a dismantled 8' x 6' aluminium greenhouse for free. It's missing a few panes of glass but is otherwise complete. Hooray for recycling!!!!!

I love recycling!! Toni I want to see your new finds also when you get them all painted, an ready to go. I think thats great. I really do. Oslo has a freecycle group there, but thats way to far away for me... i've been searching to see if i can find one here, but so far, nothing. an norwegians up here at least never leave anything on the side of the road, i don't think its allowed, i'm not sure. lucky you!!!
Eileen that is awesome too. good find.

Oh, what a find Eileen, congrats on getting that one. Do the members of your list do the 'first come, first serve' approach or wait a while before choosing someone to receive either item?
Never has been a greenhouse on my list but several storage sheds and once in a while some really good junque.

Way to go Toni & Eileen. Every few months I work at a recycle group. But haven't really found anything but a watering can. I'll be working at another one in Febr. maybe something will come in then.
Can't wait to see how you'll use your finds Toni. Eileen hope you'll post pict of the greenhouse when its assembled. My little 6X12 greenhouse-a first timer greenhouse just caved in with the weight of the snow. Hopefully will be able to fix it come spring.

Our group waits until a few people have shown interest in what's on offer Toni (usually about three days) and then it's up to the person giving the item away as to who gets it. I find that if I e.mail them and include my telephone number that it sometimes works in my favour and gives me a bit of an advantage.

Good, we ask members to receive responses for at least 24 hours before making a decision. But there are always those who want the item gone immediately or just don't have the desire to wait.
