|
Our preschool is doing a spaghetti dinner/silent auction thing this February and my group is putting together a 'western' themed basket.
So far we have chips, salsa, pork-n-beans, a kid-sized cowboy hat, a couple bandanas and a toy horse. I would like to add 1 or 2 family-friendly old cowboy films if I can, but I'm only vaguely familiar with westerns and the ones I know wouldn't work for a family with little kids (Blazing Saddles? Erm...) Other ideas are welcome!
Do any of you have any westerns you could recommend that would be suitable viewing? Folks expect a certain amount of shooting/ bad guys falling off roofs, etc. but I'd like to keep the cussin' and scantily clad bar-maids to a minimum.
Help!

Shane. Ya gotta get Shane. Great little kid steals the whole movie.
Oh, and no beans in sight. The saddles remain unblazing.

I was thinking you wanted preschool level movies, misread what you said.
Shane is a good one, High Noon is even better
How the West was Won, Evil Roy Slade (the movie not my hubby, he doesn't make personal appearances )
You could go to Dollar General or another Dollar Store, they have DVD's of the really old western TV shows. Mostly obscure but they also have The Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy, etc. Those will be fun for the whole family to watch.

I love the Fievel idea!!!
One of my very favorite westerns is McClintock with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara
The basket idea is cute too. How about a harmonica in there?

Here are a few good children's horse movies, bordering on being westerns.
Black Stallion
National Velvet
Misty of Chincoteague
