I do love this gal, the Helleborus atrorubens. She's a true opportunist, taking advantage of the mild winter and showing herself in all her glory:
If we get a heavy snowfall, she'll be gone for this year, but at least she's managed to delight us during the otherwise boring January.

Thank you.
I hope there is at least one for you out there, toni. I find them fairly undemanding.
Yes, she's blooming now, strange as it may sound.

Simply beautiful. Thanks for the piccie - I have never grown helleborus myself and it is nice to see them in someone garden who can truly appreciate it.
That is such a majestic colour.
And to think in January - albeit at the end of January. A sure sign that spring is not far off.

My hellebores are in bud at the moment but they aren't as pretty a colour as yours is Droopy. Mine are just the run of the mill type but nevertheless a very welcome sight when they bloom.

Thanks all, she's rather dramatic, isn't she? I've also got others in bud, and they need not hurry for my sake. I'd rather they waited a bit to make sure the winter's over and done with. They are white, pink and green.

Pretty pretty Helleborous.
I have 3 outside I bought last year.. I never thought of looking at them.. thought they died.
Only one seemed cute to me.. But not as cute as that purple girls..
Thanks for the show..

The Helleborous is lovely, such a rich color. I'll have to try them.

Thank you all. As I said, she's an opportunist. Three years ago we had snow from mid-December to March, and was she ever so quick to get up and out as soon as it thawed! Last year she also started in January, but was crushed by the February snow. Wonder if we'll get February snow this year.
