Does anyone have an easy method of retrieving the seeds from petunias?
The pods are dried and the seeds gone before I can collect them! Some that have dropped have germinated and have several sets of leaves, but I wanted to collect some for starting for the next season.

Thanks,
Mark

It may be easier to just buy some seeds if your not able to get to them b4 they burst open. Good luck.

Just keep an eye on them Mark. Pick them when the pods turn brown just before they open.

Thanks Trudi and Netty. There several that are brown right now and not opened. I've set some newspaper around the base...maybe I can catch a few!

Once the pods turn brown and are about to open I usually prune them off and pop them in an envelope. The seeds are very tiny and this way you can catch most of them Smile

Mark, someone here had the idea of placing a little paper bag over the pod before it pops open. I used this method this summer on my bleeding heart Very Happy
Wish I could remember whose idea it was, they deserve the credit Wink
