I bought a 1100 ltr rainwater tank and am collecting water from my roof in it to top up my fish pond (it's very hot here so I get a lot of evaporation from my pond). My question is given that the roof of our house probably has dirt, grime and bird poop on it, is it really safe to use this water in my fish pond?

I would think that dirt and bird poop would make it into your pond anyway (they do in mine). I might be a little worried about any asphalt residue from the shingles (if that's what you have)...then again, water always pours off of roofs and into gardens without any problem. My vote would be that it's O.K. to use this H20 in your pond. I'll be anxious to read everyone else's comments.
