I know many people here try to buy organic, but here is a list of the top 12 veggies and fruits that are heavily loaded with pesticides.
So even if you don't "go for" organic, these may be a few to lean towards.
Peaches
apples
sweet bell peppers
celery
nectarines
strawberries
top the list of the fruits and veggies to avoid, followed by
cherries
lettuce
grapes (imported)
pears
spinach
potatoes
Here is a link to the complete list.

Thanks for the info on the vegies and fruits.
I had read a few years ago that cucumbers are planted by farmers who are transitioning from using chemicals to organic farming. They are like sponges, really sucking up the chemicals from the ground.
We don't eat cukes but I do make pickles, so I have been growing my own since then.

This is one of the reasons I want to grow our own veggies. My husband agreed after finding out about all the pesticides in the fruits and vegetables at the store. We are trying to buy mostly organic from now on.
Thanks for posting this, it's good to know!

Always like to pass on useful info.
Especially when it backs organics or Natural growing.
There is so much more in growing your own fruits and veggies than just the joy of doing it.

Thanks for the link. It's scary to think of everything on and in our food. I love to grow my own vegetables, and this is one of the reasons why.

Thank you so much for posting this! I always try to buy organic but it is so expensive that I have had to really pare down what I do buy. Now I can go for the ones where I will get the most benefits!

Prize info - who knows what we're ingesting?
On a similar note, there is much publicity being given to the problem of obesity here in the UK.
One possible factor that is never raised is the presence of the growth hormones which are administered to many animal used to produce beef or to poultry, which can receive large doses.
It does make me wonder.

Well obesity is also a major concern here in the States as well. And I agree whole heartedly with the use of growth hormones having a "carry-over" effect. And the use of so many processed products isn't helping much either.

I attribute part of our obesity problem to high fructose corn syrup. My husband and I cut that out of our diets and I dropped 20 pounds in two months.
