My daughter broke the leaves on my amyrillis, they are broken over near the base of the bulb. What can I do to save it? It's inside the house right now, in a pot, propped up..should I plant it outside, deep enough to cover the broken part? Or should I cut it? I don't want to lose it.

hi mellisa1982, I have been growing amaryllis for last 10 years. Ocassionally leaves are broken by accident or bulb is damaged (partly). NO WORRY AT ALL! amaryllis is a tough guy. Treat it as usual, giving appropriate rest period (stop watering) and it should survive. The worst what can happen, it won't flower happily next year but grow only foliage. Following year it will be happy ever after and add to your joys. DO NOT plant deep, it may foul.
I love amaryllis.

Hi Melissa, do not worry too much. Since your Amaryllis is in the leafy stage, it will soon go dormant in any case. They require that dormant period so they can bloom again.
G4GreenThumb is right on the button on this one.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep it inside then.
Should I cut off the broken leaves? Or just leave it propped up?

I have one putting out a flower stalk now and it has no leaves at all. I am happy it is going to bloom. I wasn't so sure since I had to repot it last August. It was breaking the pot.

Ok, I'll cut the leaves off. At first I was afraid it would hurt it, but I'll cut it now.
