This is something i recieved in a newsletter i get each day about the enviroment an organic way of life. I haven't made these, but was curious if anyone else has. I figure when i get the many dozens of roses for valentines day( we need an eye roll smiley here) okay couple rose for valentines day, i might try this. Also all the people who grow roses on this site, it might be a really cool way to keep a memory of your summer garden. it says that the smell stays. heres the part that says how to do it:

I think i might give this one a shot,,,, also do you think other types of flowers could be used too... and i was thinking instead of just beads, what about coasters for hot teas or coffee,,, the heat would give off a really nice scent,,,, just curious.

    <--- theres one...

Those sound really cool. I wonder if other flowers would work as well or if theres something different in the make up of a rose petal and it'll only work with them?? Guess thats why they're called rosaries?

could be, but the idea that you can make regular beads for anything is what intrests me,, plus having something from the garden to carry over into winter other than potpouri. i really would like to know if other flowers can be used,, i got a ton of wildflowers that the smell is just beautiful, an would love to capture that.

I have a recipe for making beads with flower petals or herbs but it calls for flour to make a clay base then you knead in the petals and EO if you like.

I want to try some with geranium leaves.
Next spring I could try making the ones in your recipe when the roses are blooming. Wait, you get roses for Valentine's Day....no fair.

Sounds like a great project, Biita. You go ahead and try it, and I'll just sit here and wait for your report. :)

I've heard about rose beads, but that recipe didn't involve cooking, just the petals, a cast-iron sauce pan and a lot of patience. Of course I didn't write it down, being in my early 20's and not interested at all. I wonder how many petals are needed for a necklace. The old, fragrant, pink roses should be perfect for this kind of craft. Those are some months away, though.

You can save it to Word, Open Office, Notepad or shoot even open a blank email. With your mouse left click and highlight Biita's entire post, right click and click on Copy. Then paste it in Word, Open Office, Notepad or the blank email, then you can print it or save it on the computer. The email you can send to yourself then move it to a Keepers folder too after you print it just in case the paper copy gets lost or damaged.

I'm old too but I live with two computer geeks who keep thinking they can teach an old dog new tricks. :stew1:

OMG...this is driving me crazy...I am left handed so my mouse was set backwards for me....Calgon....take me away! I still do not know if I got it to copy...oh my...that was exhausting, I think I will have to take a nap now...only been up two hours!

Yeah, they get pretty proud of themselves when I admit that I have learned to do something. Of course some of my shortcuts, like copy/paste to a blank email, drives them crazy...but what they heck, it works for me.

Silman....if the settings for the mouse are still for a right handed user then the 'right click to copy and left click to paste' will still be the same no matter which hand you use. If the mouse settings are reversed then you would Left click to copy and Right click to paste.

Trudy give me a few minutes to find the recipe and I will post it. I haven't tried it yet, just one of those things I keep saying I want to do.
