That looks like an Amaranthus. What do you call them, "Love Lies Bleeding"?

I agree with Droopy and Palustris, but I have never seen one so short in stature here.

I'm glad to know the name of the plant. Do it requires any special particular care? It seems as though you did nothing special and it lived. if so, I want one in my garden.

Mine gets very tall and the white ones are very different but gets tall too.I think yours must be a dwarf one I hope you don't have the problem I had with them. They have millions of seeds and they spread very easy.I don't have to plant them as they come up and I move them where I want them. They usually grow tall and the flowers are lots larger and hang to the ground .Also called a chenille plant

Glendann mine dont have spreading seeds. Wish it did. Looked it up and its a chenille plant. Thanks for the name. My scarlet milkweed seeds blow all over and spreads all over the place. I then have to pull them up too Neutral

Now I know that chenille needs pampering. Do you pamper yours. I have kiled chenille in a pot but if it will live in the ground I will buy it again. I did not know that it would self seed.Glendann you must have a green thumb.

In Texas they grow like wild fire.I saw one little tiny one out by the cedar tree. You can't miss them as that stem is red when it comes up.

I'm going to buy one a plant it in my regular garden. The reason that I am so gung-ho about having the plant is because I picked out two girl baby names from a household plant book that my mother had for a much awaited 2nd niece's name. The two names that made the final cut was CHENILLE and ARDESIA. My sister named the now 24 year old little girl..... Ardeshia. The chenille plant was much prettier but, I was happy that my only sister allowed me to name her first and second child, both girls. So I would love to have some chenille around to remind me of that wonderful suspenseful time I shared with my big sis.

Here in Fl. some house plants can be planted in the ground. I took a chance and it worked. Good luck dirt2.
