I have a beautiful wisteria outside my back door which travelled round and across the front of the house, adorning it with the most beautiful flowers ever year. And then suddenly, it just died. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened? It was so sudden and such a tragedy.

It could simply have been old age BL. I know some of my plants just up and die on me after many years of growing happily in my garden. Are you going to replace your wisteria? They have some beauties nowadays and in different colours too.

Bizzy Lizzy I sure wish the one that is killing everything around here would suddenly die.It has killed at least 15 trees around .My moms beloved redbud ,catalpa(catawba) tree,mimosa's
oak peach and plum trees and on and on.It completely chokes them to death and us trying our best to cut it out.
Nature may have done you a favor.Its has some of the most wonderful blooms a the smell is intoxicating but the bad outweighs the good.

Gosh thanks for the response. I've posted this on another part of the website - love being a member of this forum - but does anyone know how I can possibly stop Mare's Tail from over running the bottom part of my beautiful garden. It has also invaded our pond which is big and I can't get into it to pull it out. Help, I want to try and do something before it starts emerging once again this year.

Put up an "No Entry"-sign? I've never struggled with those, but it sounds like you've got an awful lot of digging to do. I've read that something called Deadfast is helpful, but you might have to apply it for a couple of years.

How awful! I'd be devastated if my wisteria died. Did you see any bugs on it or any change in its environment lately?

I can't killmy wisteria with anything so I am dumbfounded to hear of it dying on its own. That is pretty unusual and had to be due to some toxin somewhere like tar on the roof or something odd. It takes a lot in my area to kill wisteria. All I can say is try again and you will probably have success again.
