February 2008 junque additions

It would appear that the batteries we bought last time were bad and might have been the cause of the camera not working over the weekend. Or at least the new batteries held in there long enough for me to take some pictures this morning.

I know, I know...what do I need with yet another kerosene can? I think this one needs a red Morning Glory vine painted on it.

At an end of season sale at Big Lots last year I bought a white plaster pedestal with flowers and leaves on it. I painted it with a green wash so it will blend in with the plants around it.

This basket I bought yesterday will be lined with moss and planted with probably white Impatients and sit in the shade garden sitting on top of the pedestal.

I love using old or reproduction coal scuttles to carry weeds from where I pulled them up to either the trash bag or compost barrel (depending on what they are) So now I have three of them.

This bunny was just too cute to pass up, I can see him sitting out under the Lilies or something.

Now I really think I need to stay out of the thrift shops and junque stores for a while.....hahahahahaha, I said a funny thing Laughing

The most expensive items from this bunch were the rustic chair and the plant basket, the chair was $10 but that vendor had a 10% discount on purchases from $10-$20 so the chair was $9....the plant basket was $12.50 but that was the only thing I saw that I felt like paying that much for cause I really wanted it.

I usually go with a 'gut feeling' of how much is too much to pay for an item and darn it, I have passed up some way cool things because they were overpriced. I think everything in the pictures (excluding the pedestal) came out to around $40

There are different types of stores....

Real Antique stores I usually avoid cause they do have pricey things and not what I want to put in a garden.

One of our favorites are the Antique Malls....one building with booths stocked by lots of vendors. Those vendors are the ones who show up at the crack of dawn when you have a garage sale. They usually have a wide range of items from the pricey dishes and fru-fru to the neat just plain old stuff. You won't find them calling the store Junk shops tho, most people won't shop at a Junk shop but they will if you call the things antiques.

Thrift stores....Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. usually have really good 'steals'. I have gotten my best junque from a large church affiliated one not far from me.

Go for it, if you find something you like and you feel the price is right then you have the thrill of victory
