I'm glad you had the old one to use Frank.

I'm glad you are back computing in peace and quiet, as I sit here, I can hear the ever present hum of the fan in my tower. I was wondering, can you see the fan blade, where it attaches to the motor?? Sometimes there is a set screw that holds the blade onto the motor shaft, and if so, it may be, with the proper tool you could tighten it. However, if it has been loose, and there is ware on either the shaft or the blade, it may wind up out of balance and vibrate. Just some thoughts that came to mind. Good luck getting it repaired.

Tom

Hi Tom, I have opened the laptop and the fan is not fixed in place. The fan blade can be tilted ever so slightly which gives it leeway to be wobbly. I have no access to the screw to tighten it again. It's out of my hands I´m afraid. Thanks for your help!

The fan is however important to keep the PC cool, as soon as we bought our laptop, rather then rely on the PC fan alone plus to help keep it cool, we bought a chill pad it sit's on with duel fans, it plugs into a usb port, and runs quiet. You need this if fan in PC not working for sure!

I had considered this also Susie but I believe that the USB chill pads are meant to be used in combination with the existing fan to keep things just a little cooler. If I was to rely on the chill pad alone it could be trouble.

Time for an update, I just got the noisy laptop back from support today and now it's a quiet as a very quiet mouse. They replaced the fan.

I wish I could award a medal to my old laptop for saving me tons of grief but alas machines don't have emotion to appreciate it (yet).

Toni I think I'll permanently hold off on the making-old-laptop-into-garden-junk idea Smile

Oh, Pooh, I was looking forward to your new piece of garden junk. I have been considering doing one of my own tho to pay homage to GardenStew. Wink

Just plant a green-faced flower and an orange-faced flower together in an old stew pot and there you have it.

Laughing I think I'll have to do just that, Frank, now that you put the idea into my head.

I'm glad your fan is quiet and your old laptop is back into retirement.

Well thank goodness you've got your new laptop back Frank and that it's in full working order again. Very Happy I would wrap the old one up carefully and store it somewhere cool and dry - it deserves a comfortable retirement. Wink
