Ugh, I hate it when I get this busy! But, when I get the time...
I was flipping through a catalog the other day and they had a couple of little wood-grained plastic things that looked like doors, about a foot high, meant to be attached to the base of a tree to look like the doors to a gnome domicile. Making one (out of real wood, not plastic of course) has moved to the top of my to-do list, but it occured to me that if anyone anywhere had made one of these, it would be a stewbie! Or at least, maybe it would be fun to put the idea out there to see what you all come up with.
I'm picturing a fully landscaped entryway, with a little stone path, maybe I'll even seek out a really tiny gnome to grace the gnome's front yard. I have a spot on a tree where there is a bit of a hollow so if the door could be opened... hmm, just full of ideas!

Hey! That's a neat idea. Maybe Frank or one of his relatives is looking for a new home. We used to have a face on one of our trees but we took it down before Christmas. I have a few gnomes and so does glendann. Maybe one of them will find their way out to the northwest. Have fun with it! dooley

CP, you are so imaginative! It sounds like a wonderful idea. Please remember to show us what it's like when you're done.

Hmmm... I've got some trees. And I've got children. This might be fun to do.

There now, I just knew someone would know what I was talking about! Wrennie, that first link has great pictures, and I'm getting even more ideas! What about a victorian-inspired portico for the proper, elderly gnome lady of the woodlot? Urgh, now I just need the time.... promise, pictures forthcoming!

I bought a cute little gnome/fairy door with a couple of windows last year at a store that sells all sorts of garden whimsy. I have a picture of it on my blog and my website. Blogger isn't co-operating right now so I can't get to my site for find the exact link. But you could check out my blog and look for the label whimsy and then scroll down. I'll try to remember to check back later and add the exact link.
Here is a place that sells patterns for gnome doors.

These are just too cute! I will definatly have to look into getting James to make one for our yard. I was thinking a nice garden gnome would do a wonderful job of supervising the garden from one of the oaks at it's corners. Maybe I'll give him a porch of his own to watch from with one of these.
