I've made my own topiaries out of chicken wire, and I fill them with spaghnum moss. They're not hard to do...the trick is finding a supplier who sells the moss in bales, because you need a lot of it. (I went to my local garden center and had them order it for me).

Here's a picture of my bear. He's been around for 8+ years, and other than replenishing the moss every few years there's no maintenance on him. The birds tend to steal some of the moss each spring for their nests!

Shocked Gosh exactly how tall is your bear? You must post another piccie of him once all that snow melts. Does he have a name by any chance?

The stump he's sitting on is about 2 feet tall, so I'd say the top of his head is just under 5 feet tall. I had to put him together in sections (head/body; legs; arms) because he was too bulky and heavy to try to set in place in one piece. I also have a monkey hanging from his tail by a tree, a farmer chasing a rabbit by my vegetable garden, and a dolphin jumping up from the ground.

I haven't named my bear or any of my critters, but I guess I should now that you mention it!!! Thanks for all your comments. They really are easy to make, and it beats paying the high prices charged by many of the gardening sites that sell them.

That's quite some animal. Is he guarding your front yard? He looks even more imposing covered in snow.
Well done.
