|
Last year my dear friend gave me this plant in the form of a root bit. I planted it and got growth, but no flower.
This year the root bit has sprouted another green shute and I sure hope that it blooms.
I plan to post a pic from time to time to show it´s progress. I wonder if you guys will recognize it before (or even after it blooms).

I will have to wait till it is a bit bigger with blooms and all before I can make a guess.
It does grow fantastic though.

I once planted a ginger root. It looked a lot like that sprout. I wouldn't dare guess what you've got there, though.

It looks like a Gloriosa Lily to me, but they grow from pencil shaped tubers. Gloriosa's are a climbing lily and form tendrils at the end of each leaf to grab hold of. I grow mine in pots and they flower for me. Good luck as the flower is awesome to behold.

WOW... it must belong to 'Jack-in-the-bean-stalk'. Looks like it is taking over.

It looks most like a Gloriosa Rothchildiana Lily which is a fast growing variety. My grandfather, Ralph Pinkus, used to grow them in Guatamala for Merck. From the look of yours it should shoot out gold blooms with a red streak in it in about a month. The roots are poisoness and are used for making mutations in plants. Hope this helps.

With growth like that it is a Gloriosa "something" . . . lol . . . boy, you really have something wonderful to look forward to . . . make sure to share pics of the results with us Sjoerd.
If the guesses above are to be correct, you could check out the pic in the link below, and compare the leaves!

Sjoerd: I can not tell from your pic if the leaves a ribbed or not . . . please tell us. The curiosity is killing me!!!!

Oh, and don't be surprised if you get another one. The tubers usually form a Y and you will get another plant. Then next year you should have four, then eight!!!
