My wife, daughter & I were driving from our little town in West Texas to visit my brother's family in North Dallas. En route, we saw this huge gray plume and thought it was an odd-looking cloud. It was smoke from a fire! We took these pictures between Guthrie & Benjamin, Texas on state highway 114:

Sun shining through the smoke as we were in Seymour, Texas.

Oh My Goodness WTxDaddy . . . we have been worrying, and are glad you are okay . . . am praying for enough rain to quench the flames. They say wildfires are good for the soil and the plants that come up later . . . but we do worry about people's homes, livestock and the wildlife!!

I am praying none of our Texas friends are in harm's way from the wildfires. Stay safe all.

Check out this map, it will give you an idea of where the fires are in relation to our members. And the fires are pretty much scattered all over the state with more popping up almost daily because of the high winds and low humidity.
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/usa/texas/map.htm

Dallas area where I am, to Lubbock where WTDaddy is, is roughly 270 miles. Seymour where he took that fantastic picture of the sun thru the smoke is about halfway between Dallas and Lubbock.

Abilene is southeast of Lubbock and is where more fires are.
There have been three difficult ones just west and south of Ft. Worth.
The one in Killeen is south of Ft. Worth, a little over halfway to Austin.
The fire in Duval County is south of Budagardner, but the one in Hays county is the county where Budagardner lives.
One in Pecos County is out west on the way to El Paso.

Glendann, Kuntrygal and Lilyplanter live in the area roughly from Houston north east to Tyler.
Budagardner lives a little ways south-southwest of Austin on the road to San Antonio.

Thank you so much for letting us know that you are all OK WT as we were really getting very worried about you and your family. Also thanks for taking the time to post the photographs for us - scarey stuff!!!

Now I'll just keep everything crossed that all our members and their families are unaffected by the fires and that they well remain safe and sound.

My heart goes out to all the brave firefighters who have to put their lives on the line when fires like this rage.

Dramatic photos! I hope all our internet friends are doing alright considering the circumstances. I'll combine my rain-wishes with the rest of the stewbies, and maybe they'll come through.
