Toni had asked to see some of the hollyhocks from a distance. My garden is so small that it's a bit difficult to get too far away from them, but here is what I have saved.
You are right Toni, it is nice to see them form a distance too.

Oh Sjoerd!!!! They are gorgeous. . . my granny who lived to be 97 years old used to grow them in her dooryard!!!

Sjoerd, those are so lovely. I am trying once again, but it gets too hot here for hollyhocks. For a small garden yours certainly does pack a lot of punch.

Those are gorgeous, I can't wait for mine to look like that. I guess I have no choice but to wait since it is only the end of March and mine are just barely up  and while I do wait I will have yours to look at.

I LOVE THAT!!!
That is what I'm trying to accomplish along the back wall. I'm hoping my black ones from Piano Lady will bloom this year! They remind me of my grandma's yard when I was a little girl. Isn't it funny how flowers can evoke a memory?

Gorgeous! We had a cluster of Double Hollyhocks years ago, but they have reverted to singles.

What a beautiful garden Sjoerd, hollyhocks are one of my favorite. I can't wait for mine to come in. We finally have more grass than snow (except where the piles from the plow are) and my daffodils and hyacynths are starting to pop up. After seeing this picture, you've convinced me to put in some more hollyhocks and put many in my new garden. Thanks for sharing.

I have hollyhocks coming up but I've never planted them. They just come where they feel like it or where the birds plant them. We had them when we were children and I love them. dooley

Your garden is really something to behold.
I have these love-hate feelings nowadays - I would love to have those in my garden one day - I hate that I might have to make tough decisions regarding my garden - the waterwise planting, etc. Seeing you Hollyhocks - beautiful especially 'en masse' so from a distance is breathtaking.

Thank all you folks for your friendly comments and enthousiasm. I know yours will be coming up and out soon as will be mine. I'm like you, I can't wait for them.
I have them planted in rows in a couple of places, but I also have single ones here and there in plots. I find that they work as one of the elements of a plot as well as 'the' feature.
It's a plant with flowers that have many instersting mini aspects, like the edges of leaves and the 'eye' of the flower. You can have some fun playing around with the various combinations with a Q-tip, if the bees don't do it good enough for you.

One of these days I really MUST find some space, from somewhere, to plant hollyhocks as they are such striking plants. Really beautiful photographs Sjoerd.

I just love those hollyhocks Sjoerd. I have started yellow ones and now have some red ones coming up. (inside of course). In the mean time I'll just have to adore yours. Thanks for sharing.
