I live in the Ozarks and have found a small plant growing under some pines. It looks a lot like a strawberry in shape and growth habit, coming up from a tuberous middle. But the palmate leaves have either 5 or 7 lobes, I am not sure if the 2 at the bottom are separate. Haven't taken a picture of it yet. Any ideas? When i can snap a picture I will add it to the post.

Probably won't be able to tell until you get a pic up, but, when you say strawberry, are there any similar fruits on it, or are you referring to foliage only? Do you know what zone you are there?

We are zone 6a I think...I was referring mainly to the leaves and the way a strawbery grows up in a clump with vines or extensions coming out from the center. The way it grows....it looks almost identical to a strawberry...that little clump at the center and then the "brnaches" coming out to the edges....but it can't be a strawberry I don't think....5-7 leaves? The leaves look just like strawberry, but too many leaves....will try to post a picture in the am....or sooner.

Here are a few plants that might be the one you are trying to identify. Without a photograph it's hard to say if any are what you have though I'm afraid.

Arbutus Unendo

Ducheshea Indica - mock strawberry.
