    Hi, guys!
I need help with my living and dining room. The apartment's very small and the living room is quite narrow. The dining room doesn't exist, but it's actually connected with the living room. We are renting this home so we are not allowed to paint any walls.

We have chosen dark furniture thinking that it will make a contrast with the walls and look nice. Dining room chairs are comfy, but also in dark color. My idea is to work around this dark furniture and add color by adding colorful carpets, pillows, tablecloth, curtains, sofa and chair covers, and other details. I have always loved colors, strong and bold, but I am afraid of the overwhelming effect (sorry for my English, but I'm sure you, guys understand my point).

The floor is kind of salmon color (I'm awful at describing colors), walls are white and some of them are painted cream.
I would like to add more flair, color, since I find the furniture too dark, bland and monotone, but I'm not sure how to do that.
We often have friends over the dinner and I hate the fact that my kitchen (and mess in it after my cooking) can be seen from the living and dining "room". How can I divide these spaces without building a wall or something, since, I repeat, we are renting this apartment? Too many questions, huh?

OK, my main concern are colors which go well with the walls and the floor and the way to break the monotony.

    Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

    ............Dora

I would look for a pretty valance, with the salmon color in it along with another color perhaps sage green, for across the top of that huge slider, then put a nice tall plant in that pretty pottery flower pot sitting on the floor empty, that would be a good start

A valance across the sliding door would be a great color adder. A print of some sort with the salmon color and lots of green, the sage green is good but you need a little darker green also that adds dimension to the print. You could also find a print that includes some blues along with the greens, otherwise you will have only green and salmon as your color scheme.

Definately a plant in that pretty pot and possibly a plant stand in front of the left half of the glass door with two or three plants. Do you get any direct sun thru the sliding doors? If so, you will have more options on the plants and have some that bloom to add colors.

You have two beautiful large vases in the first picture, how about keeping those filled with cut flowers of all colors. Don't try to make the flowers blend in or go with the salmon, flowers of all colors with coordinate with everything you put them with, it is one of the wonders of nature.

And to soften up the dark entertainment center, how about a couple of trailing plants on that shelf that has the teapot on it. The planters could be in bright colors... blue, green, teal or even have a red one for a real splash of color.

Chair covers would do a lot to add color, just as long as the main color was not salmon maybe something with greens and a touch of blue.

Wow, thank you for your wonderful ideas! I think that sage green color would do wonders for this place. Oh, the idea of putting of trailing plants on the entertainment center is a brilliant idea!I can not wait to start decorating my living room. Thank you once again.

We want to see pictures of what you accomplish in the room. Once you get started you will find all sorts of ways to make it yours without having to paint anything.

I think you can go for neutral shades. Pastel shades like white or beige make the room bright and beautiful.
But make sure color matches with the furniture you are using.
Image which is displayed made me feel you have lovely living room.
