Last night I got home from Rob's and checked my seeds. At about 10pm, they were still seemingly lifeless. This afternoon at 2:00pm I walk into my parent's spare room (which I've commondeered for my own germination purposes) and found glorious little seedlings greeting the world:

That's my Oregon Spring, Yellow Pear and Sub-Arctic Plenty tomatoes, as well as sweet italian basil.

Yeah!!!!! I love seedlings! I've been fighting the urge to start my nasturtiums. I'm afraid it's a little too early for this cold climate. Do you think 2 months in peet pots would hurt them? I know I could start them in my windows at work but then what?

Lexxi, they really love growing for you to come up that quickly. Congrats. Isn't it a thrill to see them popping their little leaves up?

Thrill is a good way to put it!
Deanna: I'd wait a few more weeks. I don't know when your last expected frost is, but I'm assuming its close to ours in Salem. Nasturtiums can be started 2-4 weeks ahead of time indoors. Definately use peat pots, this minimizes the shock of transplant for Nasturtiums (who don't tolerate root distruption well). Once they develop some true leaves: just plant em' directly in the garden, peat and all!

Thanks Very Happy You are right, I'll wait a while, it will be hard but I can do it Wink I was worried about disturbing the roots. I've always just planted them directly into the soil in the planter but seeing everyone's seedlings made me anxious!!
Hey- have you ever been to Adelman's Peony Gardens in Salem?

Congrats Lexxi. I can't wait to start my seeds, but I know it's still too early here. I'm enjoying all the pics for now. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks y'all! Usually I could have gotten away with starting the tomatoes a couple weeks earlier, but everyone's predicting frost through April Sad . Listen to me whining when many of you normally have to wait till May Smile

Deanna: I haven't been to the Adleman's Peony Garden yet, but I'll add that to the list! Sometime in May I'm planning on taking pictures at the Bush, Rose & Oregon Gardens and (ofcourse) the Iris fields. Thanks for the adding another must-see!
