..... don't worry as I'm having the same computer problems that I had with my new computer a few weeks back. Now this replacement one has developed exactly the same problem. I hopping mad as I can't back-up my system because the CD/DVD drive isn't operating and I just know I'm going to lose sooooo much again!!!

Eileen...
You go down to Dixons or some compi shop and buy a " memory stick"....and that plugs into your USB port. you can copy your important stuff onto that easily...no CD/DVD drive necessary.
Those memory sticks come in various sizes. They'll have one with a size that suits your needs.
Hurry now...

I feel for you so because you've had so many comp problems lately. But I know the memory stick will work, my husband just bought one and it came in real handy. Can even transfer picts or files from one comp to another.

No, that's so unfair! You've had more than your share of computer trouble. I feel like rounding up the Stew people and demonstrating in front of that shop.

Memory stick,, good call Sjoerd. I totally forgot all about them. we have a few of them here in the drawer somewhere.
I'm with Droopy, lets all go to Scotland and demonstrate. Where their for ya Eileen. (besides i could use a trip off the island, and have never seen Scotland.) I sure hope you get that all fixed.

That's horrible luck, steam would be flying out of my ears by now if that happened to me. Good call on the USB memory sticks Sjoerd. You should be able to get a 1GB stick for relatively cheap. Best of luck Eils.

May I be so bold as to suggest one more thing: I think that I would try a clean install with the old Windows XP software. instead of the Vista, and see if your compi will tolerate that. It's alot of work just to see, but if it DOES tolerate it ok...then you can stick with that for a few more years. Why not?
If you elect to give this a try, then I would format your hard drive just to make sure that all the little bits of Vista are gone. At least, that is what I would do.
We are all sitting here with twisted , crossed fingers for you. You have had an unfair share of mishaps with that new compi. Darn it!
