I visited another friend today .We use to ride horses together and spend the night at each others house. When I was 12 years old .
She gave me a new plant today. She had no Idea the name of it but I do love it so much.

Can someone ID it for me.

My little helper got a little dirty helping me this evening Smile

I don't know the name of your plant, Glenda, but I do wish I had a little helper like you have. Even dirty she is a cutie. I hope I get to meet her while we are out there.

It's a little bit hard for me to see it clearly Glenda,
but my first impression is that it might be a Bromeliad of some sort.

I agree with Dooley, your helper is the cutest!! Very Happy

The thing to remember about Bromeliads is that they are rainforest plants,
so they would naturally grow in a very humid and somewhat shady location.
They will suffer if they get too much sun or are allowed to get too dry.
Other than that, they really aren't very fussy at all.
Some people say that you should keep the center filled with water,
but I don't make any special effort to do that, I just spray over the whole plant
whenever I water my other plants and whatever water goes into the center is fine.
Also, I do not fertilize my Bromeliads, the center will collect debris,
fallen leaves and such, which is how they feed themselves in nature.
In fact, Embarassed I grow most of mine without any soil at all,
I just wedge them into terracotta pots, and let them do their thing.

Also, don't be shocked when the part of your plant that is blooming now
starts to look sickly - they naturally die after they finsh their bloom cycle,
but there will be "pups" forming around the base,
and those will grow, and bloom and eventually die,
making pups of their own - the cycle continues. :

Dirty helpers are the best ones, then you know they've been active. Wink Yours is very cute too. Congratulations on your new plant, Glendann.
