I call the posting "A Wing and a Prayer" because of the first pic. It is a foto of a rebuilt church in the village of Midwoud. I understand that an american airplane was shot down and crashed to the earth here, it's wing catching a bit of the church's roof in it's decent. It burnt down and was rebuilt After the war.
One can see where the old roof was on the church tower and there is a brass propellar nearby.
I have never been able to confirm the story, but it's interesting.
I believe that the people in the aircraft perished in the crash.
There are old crash sites uncovered from time to time here in the countryside still to this day.

The other pics are just of areas in the villages surrounding my hometown.

What an interesting story about the church and the plane - what a pity the tale can't be verified. You live in such a beautiful country Sjoerd. If I ever leave Scotland to live elsewhere it could be somewhere in your area so beware!!!! Wink

Hee hee hee...if it comes to that, I shall purchase an auto...no a truck with a trailor behind it, and we shall make the rounds regularly. Laughing

I am really chuffed that you folks enjoyed the fotos of a couple of places near my town.
Of course it all seems so 'normal' to me because I see it so frequently...but having said that, I really do appreciate the beauty and lack of hustle and bussle.
I'm just glad you like seeing it.
