Hi everyone,
I am originally from New Jersey (US), have a home in Daniel Island, SC and am currently living in Kuwait. For the last year, I have been trying to get my gardens going. I (wrongly) assumed since I have successfully gardened in southern areas of the U.S., Kuwait wouldn't be that difficult. Was I wrong! I finally had zucchini, peppers and some other plants put outside and then we had an unexpected storm- rain, wind, hail. I lost everything except for some jasmine and two moonflowers. (At least with hurricanes you get some warning!) Anyway, today I started seeds-again! Anyone with any suggestions on growing vegs, herbs and/or flowers in the Middle East (or in very dry,hot, sandy areas) please help a frustrated gardener with advice! (I'll post specific questions in other forums...by now some of you must have fallen asleep..)

Welcome to our forums Linda.  Lovely to have you here with us and I'm sure that someone will be along shortly who will be able to help you with your queries. Being from Scotland I don't have much experience of dry, hot sandy areas!!! LOL

I have no idea how to garden in hot sandy conditions. Unless its cactus!

Welcome Linda from NE Wisconsin. Sorry, I have no experience with hot, dry climates but will be looking forward to hearing your progress. So what books are you reading?

Hello Linda, and welcome!! I sure can't help with hot, sandy conditions, i'm in the Norwegian Artic!! But i hope this don't drive you away, and hope you stay and enjoy the forum. The people here are great and if they don't know it they will help all they can.
Hmmmm if jasmine and moonflowers are still growing maybe flowers in those families will work also.

Welcome Linda...I am from Wisconsin and someone here should be able to help you...it is so frustrating to loose things you try so hard to grow....I just covered my flower beds with boards so the lilys and things wouldn't get trampled...it worked out great..we used paper cores to hold the boards up and not much of a mess in the beds..Nice to meet you...Sherry

Hi Linda, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. We get hot and dry here but our soil is black clay instead of sand.
Have you made any local friends who could give you some hints on what will grow in your area?

Hello Linda,from the central Texas.
I have sandy soil and it is very dry but also very humid.I have know ideas for you.I hope some of the sites Eileen found helps you out.
