|
Hi,
I bought some ginger root for cooking and then went off to Italy. When I returned, it had sprouted and I decided to pot it up and see what happened. Now I have a huge pot of ginger that needs to go in the ground. I know it is native to Asia but I do not know how deeply I need to plant it, how much room it needs, etc. Any help would be appreciated. (At least I know how to harvest it.)
Thanks,
Linda

There are different varieties of ginger. I know pineapple ginger {awapuhi} can get huge in warm climates like florida. Not sure what variety is sold for cooking.
I would keep the soil level the same as in the pot. Dont bury it deeper.

I found this useful site that you may want to check out TBL. It seems to cover most things about growing the type of ginger you have.

Wrennie,
They called it chinese ginger but it is already taller than Chinese ginger should be according to the website I checked. I will keep it at the same soil level when I plant it.
