While working in the garden Monday, I came across more snails. My daughter was playing nearby, so I could not squash them in her presence. She noticed tham & insisted, she have them. She collected quite a few of the nasty gastropods and decided, she would keep them as pets. She pondered their crawling over each other & admonished them to stop the unauthorized piggy-back rides. I got her a bowl & an old window pane for her to have a snail enclosure. She told me, she would not let her snails get near my flowers and told me not to let my flowers get near her snails. I pointed out, my flowers would not crawl around looking for snails!

Now, how can I arrrange a mass-snail-killing without arousing suspicion?

I can totally relate. Our youngest, (now 19- how did that happen?), loved every living thing. Major downside- everything that died deserved a funeral. We had to change into "good clothes", go outside, put whatever it was into a box that she decorated, stand in whatever weather and all say something for the poor soul. This included the butterfly caught in my car grill, worms that dried up on the driveway, etc. Thankfully she did outgrow this. We always expected her to be a vet but she chose another career. Our "funeral memories" have made for a lot of laughs whenever we all get back together.

Ah, yes, the deceased wild animal funerals - and the ones for absolute varmints - I remember these. Somebody ran over a possum (I know, it's "opossum", but in Texas, it's just plain possum) when we were under 10 and one of my 3 younger brothers insisted we have a funeral for it. He did the same thing with a snake the neighbor ran over with a lawn mower - then dug the snake up the next day, looked up to heaven & told our mother, "I thought he'd be gone by now."

Yup, I think you are stuck with those snails for a while!
Recently our cat had a mouse cornered and my son came running out to tell me about it. I told him to let the cat do her job - the reason we HAD a cat was to catch any mice that made their way into the house. He put up such a fuss that I finally let him release the mouse outside!
