Hi,

I am trying to identify this butterfly.

http://www.geocities.com/srisix/unknow_butterfly_3.JPG

I think that it is a "Precis Octavia Sesamus". But browsing the net I get some mix info...

The pictures were taken in North Carolina (USoA) in Fall 2005 in the country-side near Shelby.

Here is what I don't get...

1/ From your website http://www.knubblefoot.com/Bugs/Insect_nym3f.html I concluded that what I have seen is a "Precis Octavia Sesamus". I also believe that the fact that it appears with 2 different colors means that it changes colors through the year (a spring and a fall color?) and that I saw the fall version. But I would really appreciate if you could take some time to clarify the additional info "f.sesamus f.transiens RARE" from the website. I'm especially confused by the rare as when I encounter that butterfly (in an orchad of pear trees, feeding off of rotten pears [apparently]) it was definitely not alone (cf picture _3).

2/ With a little more research I found on this website that http://www.insectopia.net/products.php?cat=25&prod=723&sub=true that the butterfly was from South Africa and in addion to that http://www.carolinanature.com/butterflies/ (which I take is a website that sums up the butterflies in North and South Carolina) the Precis Octavia Sesamus seems to be abscent.

I would certainly appreciate some help in clarifying this situation.

Thanks for your time.

Lexi
