memories of an unexpected holiday!
Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Mon May 23, 2011 5:21 am once again, i am back. i just returned from an unexpected holiday. went on a visit to dubai to be with my grandson. and i enjoyed my stay there, for 3 weeks. we visited a few places in the limited time my son could manage with his job. and easter came in between, so that was an experience too. it is amazing the amount of work they put in to make the desert lush with green lawns, colourful petunia beds, and date farms in and around the city. there are a lot of nurseries selling all sorts of plants. my son picked up a bonsai from one of them in the outskirts. let me post some of the pics.

Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Mon Nov 08, 2010 6:33 am wow! i can't stop myself from writing today, because i am so happy. we have a new addition to our family. my son and daughter in law have given us a baby boy yesterday. he has come a bit early but both mother and son are well. i am looking forward to seeing him. i am not sure which is more thrilling - to become a mom or a grandma. the thought of becoming a child again is more exciting when it is is a grandchild. no pictures yet. monsoon blues!
Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Sat Jul 17, 2010 1:16 pm hello everyone! it seems by not writing in, i am letting a lot of people down, specially myself. there are hundred and one reasons for not writing. someone recently said to get off the 'buts', and so i am trying to keep the excuses away. monsoon is here and everyday it is raining, wet all around. and with that colds, cough and fever everywhere. anyway the plants are getting a little more of the soak. some plants are taking it very bad. i got some anthuriums from our horticulture office this time - some scheme to help out the farmers. since i don't have a large plot, i cannot get a lot. they are mixed plants so i have to wait till they flower to see what have come to me. i feel bad if i don't put in a picture or two. sorry if it is being repeated (my camera is on strike)

cats & dogs
Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 5:49 am can someone tell me how to keep the cats & dogs out of my garden & lawn? it is becoming such a nuisense. last night there were 5 or 6 on the lawn. and it looks like it went through a hurricane. you know, i have a small tub with some guppies in the yard. i used to keep it closed with a net because i had seen stray dogs come to drink water from that tub. it was left open last night, and this morning i find the rim of the tub has been chewed off. and there are so many cats who want to come into the house. one was inspecting my fish tub this morning, so i have to keep it closed again the whole time. i don't mind cats & dogs, but i don't like them making a mess. they jump the compound wall, sqeeze in through the gate, any way it can, it gets in. ok, enough of complaints. i found thid gorgeous flower yesterday, i do not know the name, the plant has long leaves, lots of thorns, flower stays only for a day.

I am back!

I am back! after a long break, it feels good to be back. we had a lovely wedding and everything is back to normal. my son and daughter in law have gone back to dubai where he is working. so now i am back in my garden. there are quite a few flowers at this time of the year. even though i neglected them for two months, my plants are doing well. and the temperature is moving up everyday now, hot and humid. i am putting in some personal photographs in. i hope you will not mind, since we were so excited about the wedding and all that. will come back with more pics from the garden soon too. (hope this is not against the rules.)

rain rain
Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 5:39 pm finally, after a lot of false starts, it looks like rainy season has really started. our well is almost full. and it is cooler too. some of my plants are not very happy getting wet. specially roses, they simply droop and not much flowers now. i have to start trimming all the hibiscus and ixora . they are growing wild. this is one visitor we had the other day. these lay theit eggs on the tender leaves of lemon trees, and the egg hatch and the larvae grow eating the leaves. once i let them eat up a plant and there were no leaves on the tree in two days time. now, i remove the eggs when i see them, still, some remain and become caterpillars.

Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:25 am it seems a long time since i wrote. christmas & new year festivities are over, now back to normal. our son left after his vacation. he has entrusted us with a new job for this year - finding a girl for him. it is really tough since my husband an i found each other. many of you may not understand this in the west this custom we have in india. ok, so we have started looking seriously, but i believe in the law of the universe that everything falls into place at the right time. so no worry. most of my plants are doing well, since we don't have any winter here. it is becoming warmer now. i will put in some pictures from our trip to wayanad, kerala. it is a hill station, with wild life and forests. there are coffee and tea estates also.it is also developing as a tourist attraction these days.

Christmas wishes
Category: thoughts & plans | Posted: Fri Dec 19, 2008 10:16 am long time since i wrote. i have been busy for the past two weeks. happy that our son is home on holidays from his work place. we also went visiting my mother. kerala is a beautiful place to be at any time of the year. enjoyed three days there. making preparations for the Christmas now. we make a lot of cookies and fried eatables which can be stored for some time. because of the hot climate, and the humidity, things go bad very soon. still, for one month, it is safe. when i see the photographs of snow covered landscape, i alwys wonder, when it is so hot here, there are places freezing. i only can imagine it, since i have not seen the snow so far. all best wishes and love to all those who are in the gardenstew. greenfairy This blog entry has been viewed 468 times
