To Retirement and Back ~

Category: Zuzu's Homefront Blog | Posted: Thu Jan 04, 2007 11:28 pm

The holidays have provided hubby and me with a sort of
preview into how we get along with lots of leisure time on our hands.
We both took off 2 entire weeks.

Well, I'm not bragging, but if this has been any indication,
we just might be alright when the time comes.

Of course , the fact that we didn't schedule any
major projects into our holiday vacation may have had
a little something to do with it . . . yes, I'm sure of it.

As much as we love each other, we both have our own ideas
of how goals can best be achieved. Ideas that can tend to be
rather firmly held . . . not to say inflexible . . .
and often, friction and frustration are the outcome.

Neither of us lacks self-assuredness or endurance,
and we have been known to come to a dead stop on a project
rather than give ground. We lived with a raw-cut edge of
carpet in the bedroom doorway for over 17 years before a
mutually agreeable threshhold was purchased and installed.
Try to imagine rhinos equiped with porcupine quills.

Considering our personalities, our conflict resolution skills
are, perhaps, just a teensy bit underdeveloped.

Oh, what am I worried about?
We've both become accustomed to regular meals and
a roof over our heads.
We'll NEVER be able to retire!

Ian retires in, hopefully, 4 years time at the age of 58. The poor man doesn't know what he's letting himself in for. He thinks he works hard just now - just wait until I get my hands on him!!!!! LOL

I don't care about things like conflict resolution skills - he does as he's told and I don't get mad!!! Only joking we actually rub along great together as a rule as I have him VERY well trained.

Omigod, it sounds just like life at our house. And with Donna working at home the two rhinos can be a bit prickly at times......and make loud rhino roars about how things could *best* be done.

We have worked on several big projects together over the last 10 years and we basically are still talking civily to each other when the tools are put up. That's not saying there are no "discussions" going on during the project, but we do seem to be able to get things worked out.

I am 9 years older than Randy so by the time he gets to retire I will probably too old to argue with him about much of anything anyway.

Oh gosh, Richard and I can never do anything without an argument. Of course, it is not sweet little old me's fault. LOL

Johnny and I did fairly good together as a team.We owned and operated Johnny and Glenda's B-B-Que House. We did quiet well .We threw papers to gether after we sold the business so we were ok .Its just not good to work that close. If one dies the other one is just lost without the other one.

Lucky for me my hubby is slightly afraid of my "artistic tempermant." As a result we work very well together....though he does call me a "slave driver" upon occasion. Who-little ole me?

We retired and changed it into one hobby after the other. Each his own - if not completely then devide it. I have never worked so hard for so little money. The advantage is that I have never worked for such a loveable, wise, friendly boss.... like me.
