A Brand New Clean Slate

Category: My New Garden | Posted: Sun Oct 22, 2006 12:32 pm

I'm moving from Birmingham, Alabama to Mandeville, Louisiana. I get to start all over again!

Please ignore the mess, I've not even been in the house yet. My dh and the realtor picked it out. My first day will be the day we move!

The front yard from the front porch. Love the little statue and round part of the sidewalk

The driveway. I'm looking forward to finding out what those bushes are.

Front of house from driveway. There are plants in planters sitting around out there. Dh will water and move them to the porch when he goes next.

The left side is mostly sand.

From the far side of the fence. Not sure what that tree is.

Looking to the opposite corner across the yard. Seems to have lots of shade on this side but lots of sun in the back.

On the back deck looking towards the other side of the yard. I was told that was a fig tree there.

The compass directions so I can tell what to put where :-)

I can't wait to start digging!

Wooh LittleSister so much potential I think my heads going to explode :) I suppose among the first things to do are to try and catalogue what's already planted and find out what type of soil you have. Looks like you have a good mixture of sun and shade also so you will be spoilt for plant choices.

What a great property, you must be very excited to be moving there.

Congrats on your new blog, I just know you are going to love it too.

My first thought on seeing the pictures is ......forget the yard I want to see pictures of the inside of the house.

I love houses like that!!

Back to the yard, I am not much good at making designs or plans. I usually pick a spot, dig a bed, put in plants and expand from there.

Love the house and the yard.
I am like toni on yard designs .I think I would get all you have , named and start at the statue.I love that spot although I love everything about all of it .The porch is a favorite also .You do have your job cut out for you .It will be hard work but fun.

Hi LittleSister, I am Sharon, Reggaefan's forgotten better half. Looks like you have a great yard to work with there. Can't wait to see what you have and what y'all will do with it.

I too moved into a house with no landscaping about six years ago. It was great fun digging and planting. I had no plan in mind - I jest did what I thought I wanted at the time. I did the front yard first and am no slowing working on the back yard. Can't wait to see the progress pictures when you get going on it.

I will def start on the front close to the first thing. I need to have a plan though as I tend to be a bit flightly without one.

Frank, I hope they are azaleas as well! I'm not bringing the ones I have here so they will be a welcome addition if they are. My head is exploding with ideas too! Love it!

Toni, I'll be adding inside pics as soon as dh cleans some. The inside had new floors and such added from a bit of damage from Katrina. They just pulled the blue tarp off of the new roofing in back as well.

Thanks so much everyone. So happy to be in a place that I can get such support and help.

That is so romantic. I see the houses on TV and have never seen a "real" one. sighh some day . Yep a lot of work in that garden. I get tired if I see so much work, good thing you are the opposite.
