I wouldn't spend a fortune on all the fancy equipment, start with less and you can always add things as you need them.

I turned our entire front yard and most of the back in a garden using a garden fork (we have really heavy black clay for soil, you might not need one) a couple of hand trowels, a cushion pad to kneel on and an old coal scuttle to put the grass/weeds in as I dug them up.

If you are going to be clearing a really large area for veggies, you might consider renting the tiller (if you choose to use one) instead of buying it.

My gardening motto is "What would my great-great-grandmother have done?" She didn't have all the fancy tools of today so I started with a little and have kept it that way.

I would highly recommend that you have two of things...I have misplaced more trowels and cutters over the years so I have handy replacements to grab quickly.

Would help to know what kind of garden you are planning. All I really use is a hoe or something to keep weeds out and a hand trowel for planting. That's it!

I have some old stock cantaloupe seeds that have been raised and saved by the same family for many years. Would be happy to send you some to get started. Sweetest I have ever found. Just let me know.
