The Joy of Peas and The Woahs of Ants.
Well I've planted my first peas of the season today hope they give me a nice big patch. I'd love to get me some snow peas yum. But I went to my othere garden to look how my white petty pan squash where doing. To my horror all I seen was hundreads of ants on my squash mounds coming outta my mounds. So I did some exploring and found 1 seed I had 4! Needless to say I was a litte POED. Well its in the past now. But I was wondering anyone know anykind of ant detorant any help will be Appreciated. I have never found anything that works permanently. Even the commercial sprays don't work. The ants seem to walk right through it. We have these wee little ants that eat everything in sight. My son says it's because it's so dry and they are looking for moisture. The antidote that I like best is the one where you pour cream of wheat around the hole and when they eat it they swell up and burst. Never saw it happen though I can picture all these little ants blowing up. Doolely
ants are enemy #1 to aloes. Not the ants themselves but the plant lice which they farm in the crevices of the aloes. We have excellent commercial powder, but that will not help you. chalk deter ants from my cat's food, but that will not do either. "Diatoms Earth" works wonders against fleas and insects and it is harmless to the plants. Try it. It is used in pool filters. (The sceletons of diatoms) Sprinkle in a circle around the plants.
