Escaped bird

Category: Life | Posted: Tue Jun 12, 2007 8:37 pm

Today has been a good day, despite my having what they call a tennis elbow. I was awake at 4am, ironing at 4.30 (still haven`t finished) The birds were giving it their all... what a wonderful sound. I did have a catch up sleep till the phone rang. I then went into the front garden to do some weeding and deadheading. I suddenly heard this strange bird making a noise, couldn't`t spot it for ages, got my binoculars and saw it was a cockatiel, but it was grey, not a bit of colour on it, I`m sure that it must have escaped from a house, It was lovely to see. Will it survive, I do hope so. xxx

Daff quite a few of these birds escape but I really don't know their survival rate once they're out in the open. I hope that someone can entice it indoors with food and that it doesn't have to fend for itself.

The dawn chorus is lovely isn't it? I love listening to all the different birds each morning.

That was an early rise Daff, a very rare occurrence for me I'm afraid. The bird chorus almost makes it worth it though.

Hopefully someone will capture this bird and give it a good home. It may not make it otherwise. Many a bird is immediately lost from it's owners forever when it gets loose. I have known people who have enticed these birds down and caught them and gave them a great home.

Dan had a bird that got away once. It flew way up a tree. I think it was afraid to come down. I got a BIG long pole and held it up to the lowest branch. the bird finally worked it's way down to the pole and almost ran down the pole to my shoulder. It was so glad to be down. They don't know what to do when they get outside. Dooley

My Grandad got his pet cockatiel that very way. He talked it into coming down and it was their pet for years.

Down here there are lots of parrots that live wild and parakeets too...but then the weather here is quite different from the U.K. :-)

My grandma has seemed to be the escaped bird catcher in the family.. I only remember 2 of a few birds she cought.. one was a giant green parrot which she kept for a really long time.. and now I have "Pablo" our cute lil green quaker parrot. I would love to have a Cockatiel! If i were you, Id capture it and keep an eye out in the paper. Letting someone describe the bird to you instead of putting.."Found - Grey cockatiel or bird" etc. It might not survive if its injured. cats like a tastey treat to often. (: JMHO
