case of the escaped bird

Category: Life | Posted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 6:56 pm

The bird was here all afternoon, It must have found some food and somewhere to roost for the night (safety) I`ve thrown some bird seed out just in case. I went into the back garden to check on the water system and what should i find there ... a starling, my first instincts was to pick it up and put it in a box but.... the man of the house says that we should just leave it to see if it recovers by its self. I shooed it under a bush and put some food nearby but not next to it. It`ll be the first thing i check in the morning. Did i do right just leaving it ....

You didn't do wrong...I'd have probably taken it in, but I take EVERYTHING in. I am the biggest sucker for injured or infant animals....and they know it. It sounds like the cockatiel likes you! The pure grey ones are kind of rare and valuable, I'll bet someone is missing it!

Leaving the young starling was definately the right thing to do as the parent birds will still be feeding it until it's able to fend for itself. I know it's hard to leave them when you find them in your garden but it's best to leave Mother Nature to sort things out.
