Today is Memorial Day here in the States. It is when we honor all of our war dead, from all wars. I am the Post Historian for the local American Legion post, so I was on hand to snap the pics.

First was a presentation of a Navy Wreath, which was commended to the seas, well actually Mill Creek, which flows into the Scioto River, then the Ohio River and then the Mississippi River and eventually the Gulf of Mexico 6 months from now. A Navy Captain from the town had the Honor of tossing the wreath. I had that honor 3 years ago. It is a quite moving ceremony.

A prayer was said by our Chaplian and of course the flags were present.

The Honor Guard fired a 21 gun salute to the Navy War dead.

Mean while at the cemetery, everything was in readiness for the ceremonies there.

The parade arrived exactly on time!

I am now 62 years old, if anyone is curious at to what I looked like in uniform, here is a pic of me at age 18. Oh to be able to go back in time!

Capt. Thank you so much for posting these photos!! Memorializing the troops who lost their lives for our freedom is soooo important!! It must be a great honor to be able to participate in a ceremony like that!! You look sooo handsome in your photo, thanks for defending our country!!

It's heart warming to know that these ceremonies still take place as the youth of today should know all about the brave men and women who fought and died for their country.

Thanks for the photographs CK and the one of you is smashing!!!

Well, in March I found out that I was borderline diabetic, but the doc thought I could control my sugar with diet control. I have been on a very strict low carb and low fat diet and have lost 20 lbs. If I would happen to get down to 136 lbs, as I was in that pic, I will put my uniform on and have a pic taken of me! Don't expect one any time soon! Hahahahahahaha

It is not easy to lose weight when you are a diabetic. You can do it with a lot of personal conviction. It's not easy to keep it off either. Keep a scale handy so you can work on it when you see a small weight gain and it is easier. I'm still trying to lose 10 lbs I gained over the holidays. It's and up and down affair. You can do it!! Good luck. Dooley

Sure looks like a moving ceremony Capt. It's great to honour those who gave their life for others.

Capt you can transfer some of that weight over to me. I've being trying to put on a few pounds for god knows how long and nothing seems to work. Maybe when I hit 30....

Frank, as a kid I was always skinny. I was always told to eat bannana and mayonaise sandwiches. I ate so many of the damn things I became allergic to bannanas! Never did put on any weight. Once I gor married and about age 30, then I couldn't keep it off! I am 6 ft tall and weighed 200 lbs. Which is within the limits for my height, but with the diabetis and heart problems, needed to lose some of it. I am now down to 180 and feel a lot better. Not as tired all the time.

That's great Capt! I have no doubt that when I reach my 30s I will not be able to keep it off either. As long I don't end up with a big Guinness gut I'm fine with that ;)
