Need some help, come with me to the stables

Category: Pets and other animals | Posted: Thu Mar 05, 2009 3:00 pm

I've got both ponies to tend to today, wanna help out?

This is Truls's box. He's very tidy. The pee is in the middle, and the muck is in the back:

Here's Gabriella's box. It looks tidy, but there's lots hidden underneath there:

Don't forget to sort out the pee:

Well done, it looks nice now:

We need to make the hay ready, best find the bags for it:

Here's the weight, the bags and the hay, let's start putting the hay into the bags and weigh them, shall we? We need three bags per horse. One for breakfast, one for dinner and one for supper:

I use Ikea-bags, they're durable, easy to clean and just the right size:

Here we are, all done:

And the bags need to be put in place too:

The horses need their pellets and oats. Two boxes per horse, one for breakfast and one for supper:

The oats are in a special container:

Let's put a little something in their cribs for when they get back in, shall we?

Since the sun's shining we need to carry some water to the paddocks:

Here they are, enjoying the sunshine:

Truls is pleased with the water, but wanted some lunch too. Sorry Truls, a bit too early:

Gabriella's water trough was full, so all we need to do here is pet her:

Maybe, just maybe we can find a straw or two to share?

Let's have a coffee break now:

A quick look at the parrots, and we're off:

Thanks for helping me, well done! :D

And that is why I don't have horses! :) But Truls and Gabriella look very glad that you are around for them.

I have seen those Ikea bags, those things are huge. Glad to know they have another purpose.

After all that work, you should have a much larger coffee cup, you certainly deserve it.

Ha ha ha.... that was hard work, Droopy! What a slave-driver you are.
T'was hard work, but very fulfilling...they look so pleased on such a lovely day.

This was such a thoughtful and unusual posting I liked it very much. Thanks.

Yep! That looks like a lot of work but worth it if you enjoy the horses and I'm sure that you do. dooley

Toni, those Ikea bags are perfect for hay. I've had my two oldest for three years. *lol* As for coffee, I drink many cups. That thermos is full when I get in and empty when I go home.

We forgot to muck out the paddocks this morning, so we'll have to get that sorted this afternoon. We don't do that every day, but once or twice per week.

I love to spend time with the horses, but the time spent driving or riding them is short compared with the time we spend making everything nice for them.

Ahhh I soooo enjoyed helping you out Droopy. It takes me back to the days when I used to ride and muck out. It was good of you to serve coffee afterwards too and I'll be there again if you need any more help. By the way thanks for the well rotted manure 'cause my garden will love it.

Phew I'm exhausted after that :)

The Ikea bags caught my eye straight away, they're all over the place here.

The funny thing is, that when I was working I felt I had all of you there with me, and the chores took a lot less time to do. The manure is the only payment you'll get, besides sore muscles and fresh air. *lol*

That's very sweet :)

WOW! What a day...I know my muscles will be sore tomorrow! Droopy, I don't know how you do it. That's a lot of work. As Sjoerd said, it was an unusual posting, but very interesting indeed. I enjoyed it very much.

Wow, just looking at the picture brought back the smell of my childhood! We didn't have horses, nor did I ever really did serious riding, but I grew up with sheep, cows, chicken, etc all around... I miss that sweet hay smell!

noticed an error.. 'nor did I ever did'..... I meant 'nor did I ever do' ;-)

A day in the life...

I'm glad you enjoyed the day at the stables. Yes, it's hard work, and we have to do the same work every day, but I think it's so worth it. The smell of hay, the feeling of a soft muzzle in my hand, and the satisfaction after a good riding session or driving session is a must-have for me. I'd probably grow fat and lazy without those animals. *lol*
