The Five-Countries Holiday - Part Four

Category: Ramblings | Posted: Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:19 am

The Lion Park, or Givskud Zoo is a safari park where one can drive around or walk about. There are lots of different animals and small activities for children, but it's not quite a play park. We like to visit it and look at the inhabitants there.

South-American ostriches, I can't remember what they are called now:

North-American buffaloes:

The Africans had a field day:

People are so silly sometimes. A couple with a trolley had put a banana in a bag and left it open. Too good to miss said Mother Monkey and promptly stole the banana:

Mommys and babies look pretty much the same, wheter monkeys or humans:

The lemurs didn't want to do much. It was too hot:

The red panda bear is the cutest critter:

Flamingos:

This sign really says it all:

And here they are, some of them:

We also had a look at the camels. I think they wanted to be petted, but we didn't:

Then we went to find somewhere to sleep, and found a very nice, small site near a river. The Danish are very proud of their rivers. Most have their names on signs by the road, and half the time it's more like a creek than a river. This one, "The King's River", was less than 10 meters wide, and that includes the wetlands on both banks. Not very impressive for a Norwegian:

The following day we went to Ribe to go on a tidal safari and to check the old medieval town out.

The safari park was a winner, wasn't it? One of my favourites, the ring-tailed Lemur, I really like alot and watch Discovery Channel shows about it when they're on.
The mother and child monkey are nice to see in that typical position of parental care.
That sign really does cover all the bases. hahaha. Well, one can't be too careful with lions, for they are powerful creatures. Those females may look lazy and harmless lying-about like that...but you wouldn't want to step out and away from the car and be isolated by them. No indeedy. Uh'uhhhh!

Well Droopy, that "naturefest" really whetted my appitite for more picks. Now I'm looking forward to the Ribe tidal safari experience and the midieval town visit....Oh this is great fun...I'm going to get some popcorn and a cola. :-)

I'm really enjoying looking at all your photographs Droopy. I may never get to visit the places you've been but I can still 'be there' through your pictures. I love the shot of the giraffes and that camel couldn't have got much closer could it?.

OK I'm all ready for the next batch!!!

Very nice pictures. The animals appear well fed since they didn't wander up to the car licking their lips :)

Buffalo are one of my favorite animals. There is a small herd of them a few miles west of us and there is a Camel living with them.

The South American ostrich is called a Rhea, btw.

I love your journey .I'm looking forward to the next ones.I do love buffalo. There is lots and lots of them at Yellow Stone.

Rhea, of course. I never manage to remember. :D

I'd never dare venture out of the car with those big cats around, no matter how still they are. But it is fun to drive slowly around in that park and have a close-up look at the animals. The antelopes were running about and I didn't manage to catch any of those with my camera. They were only a blur.

This is a great collection of pics. I can sense your excitement. YOu guys really packed a lot into your trip! Love the animals -- would want to pet them all but would refrain reluctantly! It's so neat to be able to see them up close and notice all the details -- like the camel's knees and nostrils. The lions are really beautiful and the monkey-mommy made me smile.
