Yea!! I know how much of a relief that news is.
We had a swarm of termites leave our yard last spring, called a 'bug man' to come check the house but he didn't find any evidence of them munching away.

That's wonderful news! I'm so glad, that's one of the few things that will literally eat you out of house and home.

Oh thats really great news Kuntrygal. What in the world are they?

The agri-office said they are ants. He was busy, but said he would research to find out what kind and what to use to KILL them!! He said he understood why I thought they were termites, because of the wings. But he said one way to tell the difference is an ant has a 'cinched-in' waist area, and termites do not. Awaiting his call...

OK... the are carpenter ants. They don't eat new wood, but wood that termites have munched on and left. They also eat aphid poop!! The sticky stuff on your car windshield when you park under a tree, is aphid poop!!. Now we know! The man said they are looking for food, water and something sweet. I thought, d*mn that's what I am looking for also! So spray the area, sweep them up when they die and go on about my business. But that has me concerned now about the mound being under my house, or the possiblity the house had termites before I bought it, or they are coming about 20 feet from an old Cedar tree. I am going to have a inspector look under the house and tell me if what he sees. The agri- man (Kerry) said if the inspector says "oh you have a big problem under here, ask them to show me. Of course they are wanting to spray, so just take their card and tell them you will get back in touch with them. Then maybe call another inspector and see if he says the same thing. Whew... what a day!
