Extreme Birdhouse # 21

Category: Cranbrooks Lawn and Garden Ornaments | Posted: Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:35 pm

Hi again everyone. i have been very busy this summer but i managed to squeeze in another birdhouse.
this one is made from 60 yr old reclaimed cedar barn wood.the wood did not look like this when i started but after i ran it through a planer it cleaned up very well.

Quality as always John. I would love to have even one of these but to have a collection must be a fantastic feeling.

How did you design it and what did you use for the roofing material if I may ask?

Thanks again Gardenstew
this plan came from my head. i did one similar to this one before but i ran the wood through a planer this time. the roof is regular barn steel. i painted it black. looks nice with the wood.

I forgot to comment on the colour of the wood. It looks so nice in the photos with the green of the lawn contrasting it behind.

Do you actually have bird populations inhabiting some of the birdhouses? I'd imagine they are spoilt for choice.

Hi John,

I've been missing you. It's lovely to have you back again.

The painted steel roof sets your birdhouse of to a T!! I've always liked cedar and planing the old barn wood has certainly brought out the true colour of the timber. Another unique and beautiful piece of carpentry.

i left the wood natural and used a water sealer. i had a ton of birds a few days ago checking them out.

Very nice John! I could just sit here and look at your birdhouse photos all day!! It nice you use recycled wood. Who would have ever thought an old falling down rickety barn could turn into something so beautiful? Keep up the good work and thanks for posting the pics for us to enjoy!!

Thank you Jubabe
the best part is all the wood is free. there is a barn falling down just down the road from me now so i will not be running out of wood for a long time.
thanks again.
