What a wonderful blank canvas you have to work with. I love daylilies, so I would suggest some of those.
I can feel my fingers itch as I look at those photos. Lucky you! What kind of soil do you have?
Oh to have an expanse of grass to do with as I like!!! My garden is soooo overstuffed that it's hard to squeeze in any more plants. Do keep us updated on what you decide to do with your garden won't you?
Hi Bird Lover, I would suggest first doing a soil test (including soil pH) to determine what type of soil you have and then drawing a light map of your garden space to figure out how much sun the area is getting at different parts of the day.

It is a bit scary when you first get started. My garden design method is- buy a plant, decide where it needs to go and plant it.
