Got a Friend!

Category: Lavender | Posted: Mon Apr 21, 2008 4:21 am

This weekend I shot some really nice photos on Saturday morning. This rose looked like it was a fire ball. The bug there is some type of lady bug. Hope you enjoy as much as I did. Until next time. Lavender Up!

A real beauty and a glorious colour to boot. I hope that lady bug isn't a harlequin but a friendly little visitor.

Eileen,
Thanks for that challenging question. I did some research and found that the little friend is not a friend at all. He is a cucumber beetle. Cucumber beetles are present throughout the U.S. and are one of the most serious pests on cucurbits in many areas. The overwintering adult insect causes feeding damage on young, emerging plants; larvae maturing in the soil feed on plant roots; and the adults that arise from these larvae feed on plant leaves, blossoms, and fruit. So with that info we are going to see how to rid ourselves of these little wonders. Until next time. Lavender Up!
