What a Job!

Category: Current Garden Project | Posted: Tue Apr 22, 2008 1:46 pm

I spent my weekend cleaning out at the house. It's such a mess. There were chairs galore in there from the church. I hauled all of them out to the dumpster and by Sunday morning they were all gone. It really surprised me as they were covered in mouse turds. YUCK! You just never know! I've gotten the kitchen almost cleaned up. At least it's started. It was used for a church pantry for those less fortunate. It was not active and the mice moved in. They have really made a mess. I hauled all of the food that wasn't in cans out and left only a few cans that weren't too outdated. I don't know how old it can be before it's not good anymore. All of the cans are dated of 2007. I guess I'll leave some but the nasty turdy ones will go out like the others did. I just can't see anyone wanting them. I have 4 huge shelving units to tear down, clean and move upstairs. I have done one. It's a job that's for sure! But as I want to live there it must be done! My excitment builds the more I clean! I'm just not quite sure just how far I can go. I want to pull up the carpet but my brother didn't actually say anything when I mentioned it. I guess I'll have to ask again. Sometimes when he doesn't know what the answer is he just doesn't say anything at all. I've gotten to know him pretty well. LOL
well, the cleanup saga goes on!
OH! I almost forgot! I planted a bareroot Redbud in the front yard. Hopefully it will grow and be beautiful!!! My first planting there!

Way to go! Can you hear me cheering you on? I'm convinced the place will be sooo nice once you're done with it.

Just think - once all the cleaning is done and you have your own things settled into the house you'll be able to sit back and say - I did all this!!! You must show us photographs of your progress. I hope that redbud does well for you and grows strong and healthy.

I'm a bit paranoid on the subject, but, have you ever had a problem with hantavirus where you live? All the mention of mice, I'd be in a respirator splashing everything with bleach water!
This sounds like a great adventure though, look forward to pictures!

It sounds like you are just moving right along. As far as the carpet goes, i would put some tears or something right in the middle and say see it needs to come up,, also tell him about all the harmful things in it,, what critterpainter called it. then just start to rip it up with him there,,, what can he say then! But i know you are going to have a charming house when its all done. Thats also the first of many plants to be planted,,, well done!!! (pics when done please)

Thanks for cheering me on! Yes I can hear you Droopy!!!
Thanks guys for your encouragement! I am disinfecting everything in sight that's for sure. I don't think my brother will need much convincing about the carpet. It's fairly new but nasty!
I will go over tonight and take pictures and see about posting some. So then we can watch the progress. That might be fun!
Love ya guys!

I just looked up Hantavirus and that's utterly amazing! I'd been sweeping, vacuming and stirring up all kinds of dust. Yipes! I had no idea it was that bad. I will be wearing my little mask and my gloves from now on! Thanks for the heads up! I sure appreciate it!
