Me in a nutshell

Category: About Me~~~~ | Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 1:42 pm

My name is Kathy aka Cactusflower. I live in a beautiful little town called Carefree, here in Arizona. I am 'originally' from Wisconsin. And moved to Arizona via New Zealand in 1986-1987. First living in Tucson for about 5 years then moved to the 'big' city of Phoenix and then to Scottsdale and now here. Tucson is my first love and I chose Carefree so I wouldn't have to drive so far to the airport! and it is very much like the foothills of Tucson. When me and my Welsh husband Pete arrived at the exit onto I10, we flipped a coin (literally) - Phoenix or Tucson and it was Tucson! (after flying from New Zealand and a few days in Hawaii then landing in San Diego and driving the rental car to Arizona)

My sons name is Ben and he moved back to WI a few years ago. I am a flight attendant for America West, now US Airways and maybe soon to be United?? (The airline industry is such a mess!) I have been off work on long term disability for 1 1/2 years now and hoping to be back to work by fall. My main problem is my back pain, which is always there but better----I staved off back surgery and gall bladder surgery and improving everyday. I have 3 hero doctors to thank for that! I used to be very athletic and getting back to it slowly (now walking 3.5 miles per day so far)

Don is my guy and we met nearly 4 years ago. We have lived together for nearly 2 years.......so I now rent out my little condo in Carefree to a wonderful guy who takes very good care of it.

We live here at Skyranch in a very nice townhouse that Don bought for us to start as 'our place' together. He sold his house on Carefree Dr and this airport community suits him/us better anyway since he is a life long pilot and loves hanging out at his airport/country club.

Our home is surrounded by beautiful gardens which some of it was here when we moved here and we've added and changed several things too. Don doesn't get into the garden too much but I drag him out there every once in a while and give him private tours (ha ha)

I found this great site so I can share with others who really are 'into it' and know lots more than I do so I am hoping to learn.

I won't be able to post as much once I get back to flying but will see more stuff and have more stories! and since I love to travel I love hearing from and about people all over the world so this is a great second home!

I am the oldest of 5 girls with a brother at the end. I have been married twice, 6 years the first time (to my sons father) and the Welshman for 17 years. OH --- and --- I am a natural blonde! (probably due to the German and Swiss family lines). ~~~~Well, that is me in a nutshell!!!!

Nice introduction Cactus, you have a wonderful story. Imagine your whole future mapped out by a coin flip. Do you ever wonder what would it have been like had the coin flipped differently?

Nice to meet you Kathy, and hope you can visit Norway in your travels someday. I'm glad your back is improving, and walking is the best therapy for just that. I walk everyday myself with my dog. Looking forward to travel stories, and garden stories,,,

Eileen--thanks for the 'well' wish. Yeah, I am really anxious to get back flying. It is not the flights that are so fun...can be stressful sometimes and long days. I always like to set the tone and greet everyone that I can and make eye contact. It makes the flight more enjoyable when people are 'happy'!!!! But mostly it is having long layovers in other cities and walking and exploring. I love to be 'other places' :)

Frank~~~you have a point there! You have me curious about that coin flip thing. My nephew wants to move to Arizona from Wisconsin and go to school here. I was telling him that story and he was laughing. I suppose it is like anything in life~~how different they could be if we made a little different choice! It worked out perfectly I must admit. Me and the Welshman are still great friends. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if more people could part ways when needed and not fight or be bitter!~~~~~~

Biita~~~Norway is definately on the list! I have seen your photos and others as well and have heard from so many people about how beautiful it is there. Where I come from in northwest Wisconsin there is a lot of Norweign influence (uff da)! Do you say that?
The world has so much beauty to offer and I feel fortunate for all I've seen so far and looking forward to so much more~~~~~~~~~
