First Signs of Spring

Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Mon Jan 22, 2007 4:18 pm

Daddy used to tell us the first signs of spring were when the robins showed up and when the pecan trees started to put out new growth. He always said there would not be another frost after the pecan trees did this. Well, I haven't seen a pecan tree yet, but we do have robins, by the hundreds. Everywhere you look, big fat, red breasted robins. I love it!!!!!!!! Come on spring, I'm ready.

It might be just the tiniest bit early, Sharon. The pecans are at least a month from leafing out. The azaleas have not yet started blooming.
But I hope as much as you do.

I am torn....I want spring so I can get started on my new garden plans....but I don't want spring because summer is part of that package and I am scared of what this summer will hold.

I just checked and there are no leaf buds on my pecan trees and haven't seen any Robins yet either so it looks like I am safe from spring for a few weeks more.

I am like you toni.I worry about what Spring will bring .In Texas we have a saying. If you don't like the weather just waits a minute it will change. It can go from flooding to drought in a heartbeat. When it rains it pours and when it stops, buddy it stops.

Our robins appear here during winter and tend to almost disappear in spring. We don't have pecan trees either but I am already seeing lots of signs that spring is about to happen.

Oh Jan, don't spoil my fun, I know we have a while yet, I am just gearing UP!!!!!!!! LOL

Toni, can't wait to see your new garden when it is done.

Glenda, we have the same saying about Louisiana weather, and it is true just as you describe it.

Eileen, a woman after my own heart, spring.

Spring is Magic. We are in the middle of summer here in New zealand. Do you have any spring garden festivals?

I am sure they do somewhere, but not near where I live Eplants. How about New Orleans Jan, any garden shows?

Yes DR, fishin'. I can't wait for the bream to start biting, they are my favorite fish to catch and eat.
