Emerging Dragonfly.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Tue Aug 03, 2010 6:49 am

When the dragonflies are ready to become adults like butterflies from a chrysalis, they climb up a reed or grass out of the water and then do their thing. I managed to take a photo of a dragonfly emerging. They shed their skins many times before this part of their lives. Rather neat I thought.

I've found the empty chrysalis's of both damsel and dragonflies on my pond plants. However, I've never managed to get a shot of one emerging - great shot!!

I've found old exoskeletons/skins (I don't know what they're called in Odonates) several times, but never one emerging. Excellent shot!
