Not many of these gulls are seen down at the lagoon. They leave for other areas in the fall. Managed to see this juvenile Heermanns gull for the first one this year.

If the young gull in your photograph lay down on the shore and kept still no one would even notice it. A great bit of camouflage that keeps many young birds safe from preditors.
