A pair of hooded mergansers for today.
We have three species of mergansers in the area, this one is the most colorful. This is a pair of Hooded Mergansers. Quite attractive birds.

Those are very unusal fowls but very pretty.
Amazing how they can change colour so much as they become adult.
Your Hooded Mergansers remind me of Mandarin ducks. Not their colouring but the overall shape. I wonder if they origionate from the same part of the world?
weird shaped head or is that mostly feathers at the back?
