A pair of hooded mergansers for today.

We have three species of mergansers in the area, this one is the most colorful. This is a pair of Hooded Mergansers. Quite attractive birds.

Your Hooded Mergansers remind me of Mandarin ducks. Not their colouring but the overall shape. I wonder if they origionate from the same part of the world?
